Tips to send fewer SMS parts
- Keep English messages free of curly quotes, long dashes and “…”. Use the replace button above.
- Write the message in one language. A single Bangla word makes the whole message Unicode.
- Use digits for numbers and short links to save characters.
- For promotional SMS, BTRC rules ask for Bangla, so plan for 70 characters per SMS.
How the counter works
- 1
Every character is checked against the GSM-7 alphabet. If even one character is outside it, such as a Bangla letter or a curly quote, the whole message is sent as Unicode.
- 2
Messages longer than one SMS are split into parts. Each part loses a few characters to a header that lets the phone join them back together, so the per-part limit is 153 (English) or 67 (Bangla).
- 3
We split your text exactly the way gateways do. An emoji or an extended character is never cut in half, which is why some counters undercount.
- 4
Cost = SMS parts × rate × recipients. Each part is billed as one SMS.
Frequently asked questions
How many characters are in one Bangla SMS?
One Bangla SMS holds 70 Unicode characters. If the message is longer, it is split into parts of 67 characters each, and every part is billed as one SMS.
How many characters are in one English SMS?
One English SMS holds 160 GSM-7 characters. Longer messages are split into parts of 153 characters. The characters ^ { } [ ] ~ | € and \ count as two.
What is the maximum length of one SMS message?
You can send up to 1,000 characters in one message. That is 7 parts for an English message (153 characters each) or 15 parts for a Bangla message (67 characters each). Each part is billed as one SMS.
Why does my English SMS count as Unicode?
It contains a character outside the GSM-7 alphabet, usually a curly quote (“ ” ’), a long dash (–), an ellipsis (…), an emoji or a Bangla letter. Use “Replace with GSM-safe characters” to fix it.
Why do Bangla conjuncts use more characters?
Bangla conjuncts (যুক্তাক্ষর) are built from several Unicode characters joined by a hasanta (্). For example “ক্ষ” is ক + ্ + ষ, three characters. Kar and phala signs also count separately.
Is this SMS counter free and private?
Yes. The counter is completely free and runs inside your browser. Your message is never sent to our servers.
How is the SMS cost calculated?
Cost = number of SMS parts × rate per SMS × number of recipients. Amar SMS rates start from ৳0.29 per SMS. You can also enter your own rate.
